⚠️ Park Alert ⚠️

Due to the storms from last night, Cherokee Creek did rise and the low water crossing outside the park is impassable at this time.

Colorado Bend will be closed today (5/27) until the flood waters recede and the crossing is safe.

Those with reservations for today (Day Use and Camping) will be contacted regarding your reservation being canceled and refunded.

As a reminder - Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Don’t attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates as conditions change or improve. Be safe out there! ✅

⚠️ Park Update ⚠️

Cherokee Creek outside the park is currently impassable due to runoff from storms in the area overnight. At this time, the park is closed until the crossing is passable.

We are closely monitoring the creek levels and anticipate the crossing to be passable later this evening.

🏕️ Those with camping reservations for today, we anticipate the crossing to be passable later tonight, by around 7pm. We are working to maintain the camping reservations and not cancel them entirely.

As a reminder, don’t drive through flooded roadways - wait until the water has cleared before driving across. We will continue to monitor the conditions and provide updates as needed.

Be safe out there! ✅

Reporting for Duty! 🫡

We’ve recruited some new staff here at Colorado Bend to help keep an eye on the campgrounds. ⛺️

Some say our new staff member did a fantastic job, while others caught them eating on the job instead of patrolling the campground. 🤔

Either way - our new park staff doesn’t need food as motivation to do their job, so please make sure you’re helping with the following:

🚫 Don’t feed wildlife. We don’t need our new staff not completing assignments because they got distracted by tacos, fajitas, or BBQ (we know how tempting it may be though!).

🔒 Lock up all food and related items in a secure container, or in your vehicle while camping. Our new park staff will inspect and try to get into things. This is one area we want them to fail.

✅ Make sure all trash is removed from the campsite while you are out exploring or at nighttime. Our new park staff likes to find trash and get into trouble - we’re retraining. Promise.

Help our new park staff succeed in their job at Colorado Bend! If you see areas for improvement in our new staff, please let a Park Ranger know - we’re trying, we really are.

Be safe and enjoy Colorado Bend while helping keep wildlife safe during your visit! ✅🐿️

Thank you, Texas Department of Transportation! 🤝

This week we had TxDOT out helping repair a section of the park roadway that got washed out from the flooding last summer. TxDOT was even able to finish up the repairs earlier than expected! Park Staff were the first to drive across and we are loving the repair job already! 🎉

With the repairs finishing up earlier than expected, we have some updates:

✅ All campsites in the park have been reopened!

✅ All Trailheads in the park, the Spicewood Day Use Area, and Boat Ramp are now accessible by vehicle!

Thank you, Texas Department of Transportation for helping keep Texas State Parks running smooth and for keeping our visitors safe while driving around in the park! ❤️

⚠️ Park Road Work Update ⚠️

We are excited to announce that TxDOT will be working on repairing the 1 lane road in the park this week! As a result, there are some changes that will be in place:

🚫 The Park Road starting at the Windmill Trailhead will be closed starting at 10pm Monday May 18th until the repairs are complete. No vehicles will be able to drive past the Windmill Trailhead.

🚫 Sites 1-57, all Group Sites, Park Headquarters, Day Use Area and Boat Ramp will be closed until the repairs are complete.

✅ Trails are still open and backpacking sites 60-67 are available.

The park will remain open, but you’ll be limited to the Gorman and Windmill Trailheads for parking to access the trails.

As of now, repairs are expected to be completed on Friday May 22nd. We will provide updates as TxDOT works through the repairs! We are extremely thankful for the partnership with TxDOT to help get the park roadway repaired.

Please be sure to observe all signage and barricades in the park until repairs are complete. Be safe out there! ✅
