As the Benham Schoolhouse Inn prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary throughout 2026, we are excited to share what’s ahead for one of Harlan County’s most treasured landmarks.
This year, the Inn’s focus will be on hosting memorable events, welcoming private bookings, and increasing room rentals — ensuring that the Benham Inn continues to serve as both a hospitality destination and a gathering place for our community.
Our spring calendar will feature a new Friday Night Appalachian Heritage series, celebrating the rich culture of our region. The Inn plans to celebrate a Bluegrass Night, a Square Dance Social, a Storytelling Supper, a Gospel & Hymn Sing, a Coal Camp Heritage Night, and more. These events will honor the traditions that shaped our mountains while bringing neighbors together around music, stories, and shared history.
Families and children will find plenty to enjoy as well, with events like the Bluey Breakfast, a St. Paddy’s Day Supper, an SEC Tournament Watch Party, a Lego Block Party, a Spring Tea Party, a Disney Princess Party, and the Special Needs Prom — creating fun, inclusive experiences for all ages.
Additional plans throughout the year include a summer patio music series, local author readings, local history lecture series, art shows featuring regional artists, board game nights, an 80s prom, murder mystery dinners, a family dance, a Halloween masquerade ball, a vintage holiday gala, a 250th birthday bash for America in July, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day buffets, and much more.
In addition to these events, the Inn will continue to be available for private rentals for parties, family gatherings, business functions, and special celebrations. Catering options are available, and guests are encouraged to experience an evening in one of our historic guestrooms — making the Inn part of your own story and rich history.
We are also pleased to announce that beginning March 1, Erica Eldridge will serve as the Inn’s new Manager. With more than 20 years of experience managing operations, coordinating events, and working closely with local governments, businesses, and community partners, Erica brings deep community commitment to this role.
Our goal is simple: to continue building on the legacy of one of Harlan County’s most recognizable hospitality and heritage destinations — ensuring the Benham Inn remains a vibrant place to gather, celebrate, and create new memories for the next 100 years.
We know that meaningful progress requires unity. We welcome constructive ideas and community partnership, and we encourage everyone to support one another and work together in a spirit of positivity for the good of our region. We also invite you to share ideas for events or experiences you’d love to see on the Inn’s schedule — your input and support helps shape what comes next.
We look forward to welcoming you as we begin our next century.
