Jeanette didn't want us to sell the family home when she passed. We told her we were considering coming back and turning the home into a 'bed and breakfast'. She couldn't understand why we would want strangers staying with us.
Nearing retirement, Linda and I started to enjoy Bed and Breakfasts when we traveled. We found our stays relaxing and exposed us to the true nature of the community where we were staying. It was like staying with family.
At our going away party from Lakewood, Colorado, our friends gave us a copy of the 'Idiot's Guide to Operating a BnB'. Rule #1, you must like people, like people a lot. #2 it involves a lot of hard work and #3 you give up a great deal of your privacy. These were spot on!
We said a prayer asking the Lord for 5 more years, considering remodeling would take two years and giving us 3 years to be the best hosts we could be. That started our adventure.
