Jonathan Creek Water - Alert
ATTENTION: Customers of Capp Springs Rd, Eggner's Ferry Rd & US Hwy 68E between 6883-7464 ONLY, We are going to have to reduce pressure & perhaps turn off the water to your residence to fix a water leak. This was not planned maintenance, but our crew is enroute to begin work. We do not know how long it will take, but are hopeful we can have it finished within a few hours. We will not stop working until everyone has service restored. We are not able to determine at this time if a boil water will be necessary. We will update you with more information as we have it. Thank you for your patience. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Along the Tennessee River in Marshall County, Kentucky, there is a whole town that families still talk about, even though it has been underwater for more than 80 years.

Birmingham, Kentucky had around 600 people, two schools, two hotels, and five churches by the 1890s. It sat right on Kentucky Route 58, with a ferry crossing over to Lyon County. Then in 1938 the TVA told everyone in town they had to move. The government was building Kentucky Dam, and when it was finished in 1944, Birmingham and several other towns went under what was, at the time, the largest man-made lake in the world. 🌊

Some families had to pack up and move a second time a few years later, when Lake Barkley flooded even more of the valley. And Birmingham's history wasn't only about water. In 1908, a group of night riders had already forced the town's Black residents out entirely, making it what was known then as a sundown town.

When Kentucky Lake's water drops low enough in a dry year, people can still walk out onto Birmingham Point and see the old foundations and street lines in the mud, like the ghost of a town that's still down there waiting.

Did your family ever have land or relatives in one of the towns that went under Kentucky Lake?
