A Memorial Day weekend filled with biking through rain ☔️puddles, searching for painted scavenger hunt rocks, relaxing in the much needed🌧️ rain, and enjoying campfires. We feel thankful to witness families having a great time in the quintessential American tradition of camping!

Now in our 4th year of operating River's Edge Campground, one of the most common questions we receive is, "𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬-𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘦𝘦?" Many campers think that lock-in fees are just a way for campgrounds to 'nickel & dime' them, but that's not the case.

Campgrounds gain an advantage by n̲o̲t̲ allowing campers to select specific sites. When the lock-in fee i̲s̲n̲'̲t̲ applied, it gives the campground greater flexibility to rearrange campers throughout the park, leading to better openings that can be filled more easily. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥.

Consider it like playing Tetris. If you don’t lock in your site, our software can rearrange your reservations to fill in all the gaps.

For instance, when guests book 2 nights here, 3 nights there, and someone else books an entire week, it creates gaps in our calendar. As new reservations come in, it becomes increasingly difficult for the next camper to find a spot within the available days. If we can move campers around to fill those gaps, everyone gets a chance to camp. However, if sites are locked, it may prevent you from camping during that period.

Since many people prefer to choose a specific site, we offer the site lock-in fee at our campground. When you make a reservation with us, you can select from the following site types: River View, Wooded, Pull-Through, or RV. When you book, we guarantee that you will receive the type of site you selected; however, we do not guarantee the exact site unless you opt to pay the lock-in fee.

We only charge $10 for this fee to keep it affordable for those who prefer it.

If you decide not to pay the lock-in fee and you are moved, you will be relocated to a comparable site.

For instance, if you selected site 46 during your booking but did not pay the lock-in fee, and you need to be relocated, the software will assign you to another wooded 50-amp site that can fit your rig size. You won’t be transferred to a random 30-amp site located on the far side of the park.

In another scenario, if you reserve a pull-through site and find yourself needing to be moved, you will be assigned to a different pull-through site. You will not be switched to a back-in site.

We recognize that additional fees can accumulate or may even appear to be “money grabs” to some individuals. Nevertheless, in this situation, that is not the case. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸-𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁.

It's pretty cool to reflect on how far we've come in the last few years. Sometimes, it's hard to believe we're only in our 4th camping season here in Bergton.

And when you see some of these photos, it's wild to think we opened in May of 2023! I still can't figure out how we managed to do that!
