Something Cool to Do This Summer in Big Bear 🐻🦉🌲

Book your stay at Brill Bear Cabin and add this to your itinerary: the only alpine zoo in the United States.

Big Bear Alpine Zoo opened in 1959 after a devastating wildfire roared through the San Bernardino National Forest, displacing local wildlife. What started as a rescue mission became a lifelong commitment to rehabilitation, conservation, and giving wild animals a 2nd chance.

Today, the zoo is home to 85+ species. Most animals are successfully released back into the wild. The ones you see on exhibit? They're either too injured or have been imprinted by humans and cannot survive on their own.

Swipe through to meet some of the residents ➡️

🦉 Boo the Great Horned Owl, the most aggressive nighttime hunter in the forest
🐻 Black Bears, did you know they're NOT indigenous to Southern California? They were imported, yet now they thrive here
🐱 The Bobcat, named for that bobbed tail, the forest's quietest predator

More fascinating residents to discover:
→ Grey Fox, the only canid that can climb trees
→ Red Tailed Hawk, can spot a mouse from 100 feet up (10 stories high)
→ Ringtail Cat, kept as pets by miners during the Big Bear gold rush era
→ American White Pelican, wingspan up to 9 feet
→ Mountain Lions Holly & Hazel, orphaned in the Santa Cruz mountains, found a home here

The zoo is open year-round and just minutes from Brill Bear Cabin. Make it part of your summer mountain adventure.

🏡 Brill Bear Cabin, 3 stories, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps up to 8
🌄 Gold Mountain views from your private deck
🐾 Pet-friendly, bring the whole family
