Be careful driving and be aware of road conditions.
⚠️ Be prepared for wet wintery weather if you're planning to be in Big Bear Lake for the few days! The National Weather Service forecasts that Big Bear Lake could receive 3-4 inches of rain between Friday and Sunday; possibly more in the passes and south facing slopes. While there is a possibility of overnight snow on Saturday-Sunday at 7,000 feet and Sunday evening at 7,700 feet, little to no snow accumulation is expected. Southwest winds are expected to kick up on Sunday at speeds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
🚧 The City is closely monitoring the weather conditions and is responding accordingly through coordinated efforts with our interagency partners. Staff has been proactive in preparing for this weather system over the past several days and will continue to work until the system passes and the conditions have returned to normal. Public Works staff are presently deployed in 10-hour shifts and on standby on Saturday and Sunday to respond to any impacts associated with the current weather system, including clearing culverts and storm drains to ensure that water drains properly, and city-maintained roads remain open. As a reminder, our Public Works staff and contract support crews only plow City-maintained streets when snow accumulation reaches 3 inches or more.
🗺️ We want to remind motorists to monitor road conditions and closures frequently with the Caltrans QuickMap tool, exercise caution while driving in the mountains during inclement weather, and carry appropriately sized tire chains or cables.
