They organize group hikes throughout the Big Bear Valley, from approachable local outings to more challenging mountain adventures, along with trail runs, community cleanups and social events.

There’s something fascinating happening above us in the forest. 🌲

It’s called “crown shyness”—a natural phenomenon where the upper branches of neighboring trees grow incredibly close but stop just short of touching.

The gaps create these incredible patterns in the sky, almost as though each tree knows exactly where its space ends and the next one begins.

Scientists have several theories about why it happens, but there still isn’t one explanation that accounts for every example.

I’ve always found this fascinating. There’s something about looking up into a canopy like this that reminds you just how remarkable trees really are.

And trees are a big part of what we love about escaping to the mountains and Edgar’s Hideaway. 🌲🐻
