Important Update: Big Sur Campground & Cabins

As of yesterday afternoon, our area has been placed under an evacuation order beginning today, August 27, at 1:00 PM.

Due to planned firefighting operations and the closure of Highway 1, Big Sur Campground & Cabins will be unable to accommodate upcoming stays at this time. The safety of our guests, staff, and community remains our highest priority.

Guests with affected reservations will be contacted directly regarding cancellations, refunds, and next steps. Please do not attempt to travel into the affected area once the evacuation order and highway closure are in effect.

We are deeply sorry for the disruption to your travel plans and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time. We hope to welcome you back to Big Sur under much better circumstances soon.

UPDATE: Due to the newly issued evacuation order and planned firefighting operations, Big Sur Campground & Cabins will no longer be reopening on August 27 as previously announced.

We’re looking forward to welcoming guests back to Big Sur Campground & Cabins beginning August 27.

While the Timber Fire remains active and continues to burn in the backcountry, Big Sur Campground & Cabins is not currently under an evacuation order, and there is no direct threat to the property at this time.

As the Big Sur community continues to recover, we want guests to know that their visit may look a little different than usual. Highway 1 is fully open, and guests can access Big Sur from both the north and south. However, some nearby state parks, beaches, trails, and recreational areas may remain closed or have limited access.

Because the Timber Fire remains active, smoke and air quality conditions may vary. Some mornings may experience heavier smoke, and conditions can change throughout the day.

While conditions continue to evolve, there are still opportunities to explore and enjoy the beauty of the area, including nearby outdoor destinations such as Garrapata State Park and Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. Local restaurants, bars, and businesses in the immediate area are also open and ready to welcome visitors.

Most importantly, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the firefighters and first responders who have worked tirelessly to protect our community, its residents, and the places we all love.

Please remember that road, fire, park, recreation, and air quality conditions remain subject to change. We encourage guests to check for the latest updates and contact us directly with any questions before traveling.

An Update from Big Sur Campground & Cabins and Riverside Campground & Cabins

Due to the ongoing Timber Fire and its impacts throughout the Big Sur area, Big Sur Campground & Cabins and Riverside Campground & Cabins are temporarily closed.

Big Sur Campground & Cabins and Riverside Campground & Cabins remain temporarily closed due to the ongoing Timber Fire. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has now placed the area that includes our properties under an evacuation warning. This is not an evacuation order, and the properties remain temporarily closed as we continue to prioritize the safety of our guests, team members, and community. Guests with affected reservations are being contacted directly. We continue to closely monitor conditions and guidance from local emergency officials and will share additional updates as appropriate.

We are deeply grateful to the firefighters, first responders and local agencies working tirelessly to protect Big Sur and its community.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
