Jourdan McGowan is a Birmingham-based artist and founder of Art of Truth, known for his expressionistic realism that merges vibrant color with deeply personal storytelling. His work explores themes of faith, identity, loss, and resiliency, often drawing from lived experiences to create pieces that resonate beyond the canvas. Through layered symbolism and bold visual narratives, McGowan invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys while confronting cultural and emotional truths. Guided by purpose, he believes the art should always speak louder than the artist, serving as a vessel for connection, healing, and understanding. Some of his work is up for view in The YARD during business hours daily.

McGowan will be debuting a new body of work in his solo show "Fragments" May 15th, in The YARD.

From the artist: "Fragments is a body of work that explores identity as something layered, interrupted, and constantly being rebuilt. Through expressionistic realism and symbolic distortion, this collection examines how personal experiences, cultural pressures, faith, and trauma shape the way we see ourselves. Each piece functions as a visual reconstruction revealing that who we are is not whole in a traditional sense, but formed through pieces that don't always align. Fragments isn't about brokenness, but about learning that there is power in piecing yourself together. "
