Please keep John Woolem and his family in your prayers. His devoted wife, Diana, has gone to her eternal reward.

We're mindful at Ross Rhodes and the Ouachita Camp Foundation that many of our volunteers make great sacrifices to keep our camp running. John spent years mowing and keeping the grounds clear of natural debris, giving up several weekend days across many camping seasons.

A good man has a great woman walking with him and Diana was every bit of that to John.

Funeral arrangements appear in the link.

It is with regret to pass word that Len Peterson of Hot Springs Village has gone to his eternal reward.
We recall many times of talking with Len at Ross Rhodes. He served as the Scoutmaster for Troop 7 in Hot Springs Village, Ouachita Area Council.
We cannot ever recall a moment that he displayed anything other than an infectuous enthusiasm - for Scouts, for outdoor living and for life in general.
We hope someone will pass our sympathies to his family, for we all have known a truly excellent man and leader.
Rest in peace, Len.

RIP Rick Holland (1954-2024)

We are sad to share the news that a giant of our Ouachita Area Council and Ross Rhodes Reservation has passed, Rick Holland of Benton, Ark.

Rick volunteered tirelessly as a scoutmaster and later offered leadership at the district and council level.

He continued to show active support for the mission to keep our camp open to campers and relished hearing word of its revival.

Please keep the Holland family in your thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks ahead. Information about the Friday, July 19, visitation and funeral appears at the side and bottom of the obituary.

Ross Rhodes Reservation wishes you and your family a happy Independence Day weekend.

We're very mindful that our independence is something to be treasured and protected. We show our children we value it when we vote, when we get involved in our communities and when we keep up our homes and streets.

Here are a few hints for an enjoyable weekend:

* Please remember to drink plenty of water and watch your outdoor activity level as it's going to be one of the warmer holiday weekends.

* Wear cotton clothing which breathes better

* Wear hats with brims to keep the sun off your ears and face.

* It would be a good idea to recycle a soda bottle or two and use it to carry water. We do this all the time when we're moving around Ross Rhodes on hikes or service projects.

* Sunscreen is advised for longer term outdoor exposure.

Above all, have a happy and safe Independence Day holiday.

And remember, if you need a great place to camp, contact us at www.ouachitacampfoundation.com and we'll reserve an RV spot or campsite for you! :)

To help with the costs of maintenance and general upkeep, Ouachita Camp Foundation suggest the following nominal donations for facility usage. For special circumstances, please contact us at 501-539-3729.

SPRING FIX-IT at ROSS RHODES

We have a special volunteer service day planned at Ross Rhodes for Saturday, April 29.

We're going to call it John Woolem Day in honor of our longtime board member, John Woolem of Saline County, Ark. Many of the projects at camp would not have been cared for so well without John's hard work and support across the years.

We have a list of camp projects needing attention. We'll begin promptly at 9 a.m. A complimentary lunch will be served at noon to all volunteers.

We expect to wrap up with the day's service projects by 3 p.m.

Also, anyone or family helping out with us Saturday will have free camping privileges from Friday, April 28, through Sunday, April 30. The Ouachita Camp Foundation board decided this would be a good way to show our extra appreciation for those who will come.

We had 15 people signed up as of our March board meeting. Please call or text Dawn at (501) 539-3729 to let us know you are coming and how many people will join you.

We need to have all volunteers confirmed for the exciting day by 5 p.m. Monday, April 24, so we have enough time to shop for food for the noon-day lunch on the 29th.

Can't wait to see you there! :)
