Quiet and cloudy ☁️✨evening with temperatures cooling

Good evening Hudson Valley
Hope you’re all doing well

As we look across the Hudson Valley region this Friday night on the 21st day of August, a steady layer of clouds ☁️ has settled in, keeping conditions mostly cloudy through the remainder of our evening hours.

Currently, temperatures are resting in the lower 70°s, but will continue a slow and calm decent towards an overnight low of 59°.

Winds remain exceptionally light and variable, providing a tranquil start to the weekend. Expect those clouds to linger as you head to bed 🛌, though no significant weather concerns are expected to impact your late night plans .. but that will all change by tomorrow night and Sunday afternoon and night.

Looking ahead to Saturday, those clouds will gradually give way to some afternoon sunshine ☀️ with a pleasant high of 78°. This sunshine will add fuel ⛽️ (instability) to the storms for Sunday afternoon through Sunday night.

⚠️⚡️⛈️ Severe Weather Potential

Showers possible 🌧️ starting after 9pm Saturday night with thunderstorms ⛈️ mixing in around 5am Sunday morning through 7am, then turning more on the severe side from 11am through 7pm .. Severe weather should come to an end by 8pm.

These storms for Sunday afternoon through Sunday night will be severe and there will be wind gusts of 25 - 45+ mph, frequent lightning ⚡️, flash flooding 🌊, hail, power outages, etc .. as we’ve been through already in past severe storms. And can’t rule out the possibility of a tornado 🌪️. Storm motion will be from southwest to northeast.

The NWS, Storm Prediction Center has placed our area under a Marginal Risk for isolated severe thunderstorms ⛈️ and Excessive Rainfall as well for Sunday.

This is not set in stone yet as we still have some hours ahead for possible changes .. So please check back for the latest weather updates by Alex, Bill, and myself.

All we can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best .. Always better to be prepared than unprepared.

⚠️ Back up and running ⚠️

The road block for 17K from Union School Road to Winding Hills Road has been lifted and 17K is fully opened again!

Thank you to the crews who worked throught the heat and weather to complete this project for us.

Detours are no longer needed, and 17K is once again completely passable. Please drive responsibly!

FYI for all of our camping families traveling locally this weekend. Be aware.

Traffic Advisory ✈️🚗

Please be advised that traffic is expected to be heavier than usual in the area surrounding Orange County Airport from Friday through Sunday, July 31–August 2, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., due to the New York Air Show.

There will also be an increased law enforcement presence in and around the airport and surrounding roadways to help ensure public safety and assist with traffic management.

If you plan to travel through the area during these hours, please allow extra travel time, use caution, and consider alternate routes whenever possible.

** 07/18/2026 Update from DOT on the Route 17K Culvert Replacement Project in Montgomery/Crawford **

Our contractor is completing the backfilling operations around the culvert and restoring the waterway to its permanent configuration. Paving operations are scheduled for early next week with guiderail installation and supplemental work to follow. Due to weather issues and other unforeseen circumstances, the substantial completion date/roadway opening for this project is now anticipated August 3, weather permitting.

The roadway remains closed to traffic, and we ask that all motorists continue to follow the posted detour when navigating around the closure. The local roads near the culvert replacement are not designed for the same traffic normally on Route 17K.
