There's a stretch of open nights on the calendar this month, and we keep looking at it thinking… someone should be here.

The Parke at Turkey Run is a 71-acre private retreat just outside Turkey Run State Park in Parke County, Indiana — about 1 hour 20 minutes from Indianapolis. Late August here is doing something quiet and good: the light's different, the evenings get that first hint of fall crispness, and the hot tub feels better than it did in July.

We built this house around things that meant something to us: antiques found piece by piece, original art from Indiana makers, a porch made for a sunset spread, and a basement that turns into a full-on tournament the second more than 2 people are in it (you'll definitely lose the ping pong rematch - that's just how it goes here). It's the kind of place that feels like a friend's vacation home, not another rental.
