Earlier this spring, a litter of kittens was found tucked into a bed of straw inside our heated backflow preventer box here at Rocky Top. We watched those tiny babies grow, and from the very beginning, one little guy stood out. He had the cutest little bobtail and was always looking for someone to love on him.

It didn’t take long for all of us girls in the office to fall in love with him, and we decided to name him Stevie.

His name means a lot to us.

Steve was a longtime guest who became part of the Rocky Top family. He was our California surfer friend, traveling while also dealing with the challenges of a chronic illness, but you would hardly know it by meeting him. He was always smiling, always friendly, and made friends everywhere he went.

He told us more than once that he had never stayed in one place as long as he stayed at Rocky Top, but that something about the campground and the people here made him feel at home. We were lucky to have him with us for more than a year and even luckier to get to know him.

We were so glad he was able to make one more trip across the country and get back home to California, just like he had hoped.

And somehow it feels fitting that little Stevie is spunky and sweet, just like Steve was. He keeps all of us in the office smiling and has already made himself a pretty unforgettable little part of Rocky Top.

Steve may be gone, but he will never be forgotten here. And now this sweet little bobtailed kitten named Stevie will always be a reminder of our California surfer friend who found a home and a family here on the mountain. ❤️
