We are back home….for now. We get sad whenever we leave Fehrway To Heaven but we love sharing it with others. We have a guest book for people to sign and one of my favorite things is to hear what they have to say. Here are some of the most recent ones. Know what I think? You should make your way up here so you can write in this book too!

In case you come here with the intent to hike/walk here are some recommendations in order of easy to more challenging:
1). Bass Lake (easy walk that is 1 mile around)
2). Swiss Mountain Village (right across the street-go up the stairs there to make it a tad more strenuous).
3). Price Lake (a 2.3 mile walk around the whole lake-easy but long, limited lake view and some minor elevations and lots of tree roots)
4). Walk downtown Blowing Rock. Super easy if you stay on the Main Street but if you start traversing the side streets you can get a good leg work out and end off at Blue Deer for an amazing Latte 😉)
5). The Maze at Bass Lake. It says 2.3 miles but that’s to the halfway point. It’s about 5 miles round trip. It’s a 1000 foot elevation accomplished by relatively easy long switch backs and it may be the most beautiful place on earth).
6). Linville Falls (Long steady incline but beautiful waterfalls to enjoy visually at the end).
7). Grandfather Mountain (many different options for walks to the top of the mountain, mostly steady and somewhat easy switchbacks and you get rewarded with the suspension bridge at the top. Side bonus: you get to see where they filmed part of the running scene in Forest Gump).
8). Rough Ridge (this is off the blue ridge parkway so it’s a beautiful drive. It’s not the longest hike but it’s a hike: steeper inclines and lots of rough terrain. You get rewarded on this one with a really cool overlook in the form of a huge exposed walk).

Hope this helps. Come and stay. You know you wanna.

As we leave the home and reflect back on the two weeks we have had here I am filled with gratitude. We spent yesterday deep cleaning as we take pride in the home we provide for others to enjoy this magical place. We hope friends can take advantage and that the friends we haven’t made yet feel like this is their home away from home. Here are some additional images from our time just to tempt you to come and find your own peace here. Oh! And we also got a new quilt for the second bedroom!

Interesting last day here at Fehrway. A huge storm rolled through last night and the house got hit by lightening! No damage but we were without cable for 24 hours and had to go get a new modem. But, sometimes it’s nice to disconnect and it reminds you to sit on the front porch and enjoy the awe of this place.

So…. somewhat uncharacteristically for me I have been hiking a lot with the Fehrway boys while being up here. Hiking (and long walks) is a relatively new thing for me. As I mentioned yesterday, my favorite walk is at Bass Lake, but we upped the ante by doing The Maze extended hike up the mountain and that was exceptional. Earlier this week we walked Price Lake (pics here)and that had been on our bucket list for a while. I have to say, though it was somewhat of a challenging hike only because of exposed roots and minor inclines it wasn’t as satisfying visually. When there was a break and we got to see the actual lake that was something extraordinary. I would do it again, but so far my preference is Bass Lake. If you’ve been to this area, what hikes do you recommend?

We get asked a lot about how far from civilization we are at the house. We are 5 minutes to downtown Blowing Rock, 15 minutes to Boone (Starbucks! Though there’s better local coffee houses) but, the best thing is we are 8 minutes to Bass Lake. The most special place in the world. Today we hiked the Maze at Bass Lake and it has made me never want to go back home.

Hello! Long time! Mr Fehrway and I had a busy fall and winter with Baby Fehrway off at college and didn’t have time to come up to the house. We’re here now (it’s been 7 months!!!) and we have spent the week cleaning and fixing things in the home. We have one more week to go, but will be back in August and then again in October. This is the view while I’m sitting in one of the rocking chairs on the front porch. I certainly hope you get this opportunity someday

Happy Holidays! Here’s a little peak at Tweetsie railroad, which is 3 miles from the house. We were booked through November but have plenty of vacancy in December. This would be the perfect thing to do at Christmas time 🎄. Come stay….you know you wanna 😍
