No woman needs to go hiking by yourself. This should not be, but in the day we live we need to be cautious.

Warning! If you're in the North Carolina area:
This happened to me yesterday at the Big Ivy Trailhead in the Pisgah National Forest, where I was solo camping:
I heard rustling noises early in morning, thought it was a bear. Kept making noise and calling out to scare off the bear. When I came out of the tarp/hammock area at dawn there was a man on the banks. Said he wanted to talk to me. He sat on the giant log that I hung my hammock on. It's high up, so he couldn't get down or get to me easily. I sat and talked with him. He gave the impression of mental illness, but I initially thought he may be harmless.
Then he started talking about being a sniper in Afghanistan, and killing people. Talked about how his wife died many years ago and he hasn't had a woman since. Started asking me questions designed to see if I was alone.
Said he noticed my car and looked in the windows to see if anyone was sleeping in it. That it seemed like a woman's car. That he went looking for me because he wanted someone to talk to.
I looked down and on the tarp that covered where I was sleeping was duct tape and scissors. I picked them up and asked if they were his. He said they were but that it didn't mean anything and he wasn't going to do anything with them.
He kept wanting to come down from the log to where I was at. I told him that I didn't feel comfortable with that. He dropped something and asked me to grab it. Then he started to get down from the log and I told him not to, and to stay where he was at. He kept coming so I got out of there fast and had the police come back with me to gather my things. I made a police report and reported to forest rangers.

I think he was creeping around my sleeping area(with duct tape and scissors in hand) and I possibly scared him off when I called out. I think he's driving around trying to find solo females, so be on the alert. He's medium build, Caucasian, said he was 50 years old, unkept beard, glasses.

Thank y’all for doing all the work. We were camping in loop A the 29-31 and saw all of you working. Thank you so much. We miss staying in loops E and F. We live Julian Price campground.
