PLAN AHEAD: Starting Friday, January 21 at 9 p.m. until Monday, January 24 at 5 a.m., TxDOT and its contractor will have to close all main lanes of I-10 at Highway 46 to tear down the old bridge.
As always, this is weather permitting.
The westbound lanes of I-10 will be reduced to one lane then use Exit 540 to SH-46/Bandera Rd. Westbound frontage road traffic will continue through the Highway 46 intersection and back onto I-10 West at the next available entrance ramp located near Fredricks Creek.
The eastbound lanes of I-10 will be reduced to one lane then use Exit 540 to SH-46/Bandera Rd. Eastbound frontage road traffic will continue through the Highway 46 intersection and back onto I-10 East at the next available entrance ramp.
For safety reasons, the new Highway 46 bridge over I-10 will be closed, requiring all traffic to turn right onto the frontage roads.
So, if you are wondering how to get around, here are the easiest ways:
• Westbound Highway 46 traffic (if you are headed toward Bandera and Pipe Creek) will be detoured onto I-10 West, go to the Johns Road intersection and turnaround. You will then take Exit 540 to Highway 46 and continue westbound.
• Eastbound Highway 46 traffic (if you are coming into Boerne) will be detoured onto the eastbound I-10 frontage road, then onto the I-10 East main lanes, to Exit 543 at Scenic Loop, where traffic will use the turnaround and can take multiple roads into Boerne.
There will be off-duty uniformed officers to control the traffic movement at the Highway 46 intersection.
