It was a Lutheran chapel.

We didn't flatten the ceilings or square off the walls, because you cannot build that kind of height and quiet on purpose in 2026. You inherit it or you don't.

Guests call it the Heavenly Suite. We've stopped correcting them.

It is our most expensive room and the one people book a year out for anniversaries, honeymoons, and proposals. There is exactly one of it.

We have photographed a lot of people saying yes here.

Ceremonies in the courtyard. Receptions that ran later than planned. First looks on a staircase that has been holding up under happy chaos for 160 years.

Starting today, Wednesdays are for weddings. Real couples, real days, the actual rooms and lawns and light you'd be working with. No stock photos, no borrowed venues.

Who was Kendall?

The county. The fair. The inn. All named for one man, and almost nobody who stays here knows his story.

George Wilkins Kendall was born in New Hampshire in 1809 and had no business ending up in Texas. He co-founded the New Orleans Picayune in 1837. He rode with the army into Mexico and filed dispatches from the field, which made him arguably America's first modern war correspondent. Then he bought land out here in 1856 and became, of all things, the father of the Texas sheep industry.

In 1859 the people of Boerne and Sisterdale petitioned for a county of their own. When it was granted in 1862, they put his name on it.

The Kendall County Fair & Rodeo rolls into town September 4–6, and it's Hill Country tradition at its finest: bull riding, the livestock show, the Queen's Pageant, and enough fair food to justify a second lap. Fitting name for a fair, if you ask us. 🤠
