So many of our guests and friends are following this story closely and are vested in this heartbreaking struggle to get the Buccaneer floating again. Update on the Buccaneer…

I just spoke with Shane. The recovery cost is expected to be OVER $30,000 minimum.

That number is overwhelming for one person to carry alone, especially for a hardworking shrimper just trying to get his boat, and his livelihood, back in the water.

The Buccaneer isn’t some abandoned boat on the beach. It’s how Shane makes a living. It’s how he supports himself and his family. Right now he needs his community behind him.

So I’m asking everyone: if you can donate, please do. If you can’t, share this post. Get it in front of as many eyes as possible.

Sometimes communities come together and do incredible things for people who truly need it. Let’s do that here.

Airbnb is overcharging guests for taxes and they are refusing to correct it. For Bolivar Peninsula, Airbnb is supposed to collect and remit 6% state hotel occupancy tax. They are collecting 9% Galveston tax in addition to 6% state tax. We have brought this to their attention. They asked for the Latitude and Longitude of the property. We provided it. We provided verification that unincorporated Galveston County is NOT subject to city tax. They are refusing to correct it and keep closing our support cases with no resolution for the guests. Share this and more importantly BOOK DIRECT!

*YES, we require a valid ID from the reservation holder for check-in, and YES, every single one of our listings states this clearly.
*NO, we don't need photo IDs for all of your guests. ONLY the reservation holder.
*NO, we won't make an exception and rent to 10, 16-18 year olds. I am certain you are all very responsible honor students. The answer is no.
*NO, you do not have to use our guest portal. It is encrypted, and we provide it as a more secure alternative to other forms of electronic communication. You may send it however you feel comfortable doing so.
*NO, asking for your ID is not a political statement.
