I love my quiet time here in the hammock at night beneath the stars. I lie here hoping to catch a shooting star, waiting to make a wish. Sometimes, they are selfish, but often they are not. I can't help but be awed. It's like a sliver of the infinite. As if this place is a weigh station or some port of entry from the realm of dream to what we call reality. The lights of the ships anchored off shore are all the pregnant possibilities that could be birthed into this world, all of my alternative lives floating in a sea at the edge of my horizon. Depending on which way the winds blow, these paths will coalesce or dissolve (re)defining my existence. A man lives many lives in his span. Some are but the blink of an eye, and others leave a mark which he carries forward into the next, but there is always the element of chance and the indomitable spirit of change driving him to some unknown destiny. It is on nights like these my heart sings with joy and aches from past sorrows. My thoughts bleed ink, yet I never lose sight of those ships and never cease looking for those shooting stars, because there are new adventures to be had, new places to be seen, and new loves to be embraced. This is my Wonderland.
