📢 Important Announcement – Honey Bear Campground

Honey Bear Campground is now permanently closed.

The property is currently being sold and the new owners plan to redevelop the land into a tiny home village and are beginning renovations immediately. The campground will not open for the 2026 camping season. As such, all existing reservations have been cancelled and all deposits have been fully refunded. Refunds should appear in your account within 2–3 business days of your cancellation email.

We are incredibly thankful for the many families, campers, and friends who supported us over the years. Honey Bear was filled with laughter, campfires, and unforgettable memories, and we truly appreciate everyone who spent time here.

Hello Honey Bear Friends!

First and foremost we want to thank all of you for your kindness and generosity! The High Country has benefited greatly from those far and wide who have reached out to help following the devastating hurricane a few weeks ago. There is still a lot of work to be done…. but recovery is underway and it has been so great to see communitites come together for one another! The dust has settled a bit in Boone and things are slowly but surely re-opening.

So so many of you have asked how you can help us and we are finally ready for our first clean up party! We are welcoming folks to come camp for free who are willing to assist us as we clean up, purge, and winterize old HBC! In the spring we will be ready to tackle some of the harder projects that will require a bit more manpower and equipment!

This clean up party is looking for volunteers to come and clean up branches, and trees. We will also load dumpsters from our shop area where we took on a bit of water. We will also do some demo and repair work in our coffee shop. If you are interested please send a text to 828-266-8914 and sign up! We are working Thur-Sun Oct 24-27th and will provide a site, plus dinner for the crew each night. Chainsaws, and muscles are welcome, and cheerful attitudes are required! 🥰🥰🥰!

We really cannot thank you all enough for your kindness in reaching out asking to come and help! While the circumstances may not be our usual fall fun, we have grateful hearts for the love you all have shown us!

Hello Campers!

We are updating here and also sending emails to any guests with current reservations for October 2024. Due to the road damage and clean up work still to be done, HBC is officially closed for the remainder of the season. We will be back at it next spring so please plan your trips for the 2025 season by visiting the website at honeybearcampground.com to book your favorite sites! If you have a current reservation we will be reaching out through this weekend to give you details. We appreciate all of your love and support during this difficult season.

Hello Hello Campers! First off we want to just say our hearts are broken for the entire Western region of NC and beyond. The devastation this storm has caused is unimaginable. The impact of this tragedy is mind blowing and difficult to comprehend. Please contine to keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers. It is going to be a long long journey.

We are beyond grateful to everyone who has reached out to check on us and make sure we are ok. We feel so fortunate to be able to say that our family and other long term guests are all ok and we are all safe! Our family (Sky myself and the kids) were all in Lincolnton for school when the storm hit HBC. We had flooding here at our house, while My Dad and his wife stayed on site at HBC until around 8 pm when they finally evacuated to a hotel. Friday they watched the streets of Boone fill with water from their hotel room. It was an unbelievable sight.

The campground sustained a significant amount of damage to the infrastrcture. Specifically our roads and our large culverts at the creek crossings. We have several trees down but miraculously none of them hit or damaged the RV’s that remained on property as people evacuated. At this time we are processing it all and making decisions on our plan forward. We are thinking big picture though because it isnt just about Honey Bear at this moment in time. It is also about our local community that is suffering immensely. The roads in and out of town are in shambles and Poplar Grove itself is compromised and unsafe. Please be patient as we reach out to our exisitng reservations and make plans for what is next. Today is our first day with cell service and internet here at home and we are slowly working to get our things in order. We have reached out already to all incoming guests through the 15th of October. Please check your emails and text messages. We are working as quickly as we can. There are so many moving parts right now, and we appreciate your patience.

Once again we want to thank you all for your love and support in this very challenging and emotional time. We love this beautiful mountain and all of the memories it holds for so so many. Take care, and be safe!

BOOK NOW for the 2025 Season!

This season is up and running and we are all having a wonderful time! Earlier this year we announced that HBC was being sold and with that, we were uncertain of what would happen to this special place that we all know and love. It has been quite a journey to get to this point, but we are thrilled to share the news that HBC will in fact remain a family friendly campground for MANY MANY years to come! We will still be around continuing to make memories alongside all of our loyal guests. Although our roles will look a little different as we move forward, we are so excited to see what the future holds for HBC!
