One of our reviews for a person renting a room...last July
We unexpectedly ended up at the Mossy Glen Lodge when our planned rental fell through. Given the circumstances, we would have gone anywhere that would take our two big dogs but we ended up quite happy that we landed here in a log cabin off the beaten track in five acres of woods . This place is very private, chock full of personality, and anything but a typical Boothbay rental. We'd call it "eclectic" -- rock and mineral specimens displayed on railings and inside the house; a collection of sand jars from beaches around the world; carefully placed branches lining the walking trails (complete with plastic chairs for resting); a horse shoe game in the middle of a manicured lawn; an ax resting in a stump near the entryway; a small saucepan on the stove for use as a teapot; and a large outdoor fire pit encircled by stumps for seats. This looks like a place where someone lives comfortably, and it was true. Inside, the cabin was clean, cozy, amenable and had everything we needed. We ate all our meals on the deck where our dogs could just hang out, and we took several walks on the trails. Boothbay was only a 15-min. drive and Pemaquid Point and New Harbor (where we went for a puffin cruise) about 45 min. away. As noted, the owner, Jamie, lives right next door, behind the neighboring garage, and was often out in the woods doing maintenance projects, but he was respectful of our privacy and we just emailed or called if we needed anything.

The setting is very peaceful and the house very clean. It is very proximate to the harbor and Botanical Gardens and not too far from Pemaquid Point. Jamerling has good tips about what is worth seeing and where to go. His deck is very pleasant and includes use of the grill. The stay was great!
