On this day in 1912, Fairmont Copley Plaza opened its doors in Boston’s Back Bay, beginning a legacy defined by elegance, hospitality and unforgettable moments.
Built in just 16 months, the hotel made quite an entrance. More than 1,000 guests gathered in the gilded ballroom for its grand opening, where Mayor John F. “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald, grandfather of President John F. Kennedy, ceremoniously cut the ribbon. Since then, generations of guests have passed through our doors, from presidents and dignitaries to film stars, artists and travelers from around the world.
For more than a century, Fairmont Copley Plaza has been woven into the fabric of Boston, serving as the setting for grand celebrations, cherished milestones and countless occasions.
Today, we celebrate the history held within these walls, the people who have shaped our story, and the countless moments made along the way.
