The Briar Rose is Now Closed
Dear Guests, Staff, and Friends,
We are finally acknowledging the closing of the Briar Rose.
Thank you all for your love and support over these last 16 years. We were so fortunate to have shared with you this beautiful property, and our wonderful community of staff, guests, Zen practitioners, and friends. The decision to close our doors was difficult, but we faced many headwinds. For a couple of years there has been a glut of rooms from the new chain hotels in town, and two more are being built. We were already struggling from this, though working to adapt, but the nearly complete loss of bookings resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a decision to re-envision the property.
Thank you, all of you. You made the Briar Rose the special place it was.
-Gary and Jessika
The Future - The Boulder Guesthouse
Happily, the property is entering a new chapter: it is becoming a residential Zen center, The Boulder Zen Center (BZC). The BZC has actually owned the property for 16 years, and will now operate it. Over the years we have been meeting in our zendo for regular Zen practice, but now there are several residents, including Zenki Roshi from Crestone Mountain Zen Center and two of his monks, to lead the practice. The property is currently being renovated. Gary, who ran the Briar Rose all those years, is also ordained and will continue to participate.
In the first part of 2021 the BZC will begin offering a new lodging business, The Boulder Guesthouse. We would love for you to come stay with us!
