Having been a sanctuary in the Midwest for nearly 80 years, Camp Mihaska is a place where people of all ages find purpose.

That’s exactly what happened to Zac Smith, who spent his childhood summers at Mihaska, and went on to work in mission and ministry at several Salvation Army camps across the country. Capt. Matt DeGonia shares his Camp Mihaska story: "At Camp Mihaska, children from across Illinois and Missouri come together to experience the joys of camping and learning about Jesus. For some, it’s a one-time visit; for others, it becomes a stepping stone to new interests. But for a few, it becomes a place they never want to leave. I was one of those few."

On This Day In History: In 1912, The Salvation Army's Founder, William Booth, made his last public appearance at Royal Albert Hall in London.

The 83 year old minister, in front of a crowd of 7,000, gave his farewell sermon closing with these words:
“While women weep as they do now, I’ll fight; while little children go hungry as they do now, I’ll fight; while men go to prison, in and out, in and out, as they do now, I’ll fight; while there is a drunkard left, while there is a poor lost girl on the streets, while there remains one dark soul without the light of God, I’ll fight—I’ll fight to the very end.”

This Ash Wednesday, we pause to remember our humanity and our need for God’s grace. From dust we came, and through faith, we are renewed. May this season of Lent draw us closer to repentance, humility, and hope.
