📜 The Story of Jonathan Dickinson
Jonathan Dickinson (1663–1722) was a wealthy Quaker merchant from Jamaica who became best known for surviving a harrowing shipwreck near Jupiter Inlet in 1696.

In his famous journal, God’s Protecting Providence, he chronicled the ordeal of his party’s captivity and their difficult journey north to St. Augustine after being taken in by the Jobe Native American tribe.

After his rescue, Dickinson settled in Philadelphia, where he prospered and later served two terms as mayor.

Today, his legacy lives on in Martin County at Jonathan Dickinson State Park—located near the very waters where his remarkable story began.
