Good evening everyone!

Tomorrow (Saturday, October 24th) is Trick or Treat Trails! The event goes from 3pm - 6:30pm. Below are some common questions and answers we commonly get about the event.

1.) Is this a kid-friendly event? Yes, this is a very kid-friendly event.

2.) Are bags provided? Yes, bags are provided at the Big Sioux station located near the picnic shelter.

3.) How long is the route? Just shy of one mile.

4.) Will the event happen if it rains? Yes, forecast shows a slight chance of rain. Don't forget that rain jacket!

5.) How many stations will there be this year? 16 business/organization stations in the campground, 1 at the picnic shelter and 3 near the picnic shelter - 20 total! Plus usually a few campers hand out candy to the kids in the campground. :)

6.) Do we need a park sticker of our vehicle? Yep, any vehicle comes into the park does need a park sticker. More information can be found online at https://gfp.sd.gov/pel/

7.) Where does the event start? Starts at the picnic shelter. We have a large mowed parking lot set up - though we do encourage folks to carpool or walk in to help save parking space.

8.) Can I use a stroller at the event? Yes, we do have a very small grassy section of trail (about 500 feet). The route is very flat.

9.) Can I bring a dog? YES! Dogs are welcome but need to be on a leash.

10.) Where is Big Sioux Recreation Area located at? Park address is 410 West Park Street, Brandon, SD 57005

🎃 Still Looking for a Campsite This Weekend?

Good morning, everyone!

It’s hard to believe that Trick or Treat Trails is just around the corner! We’re looking forward to another fantastic turnout this Saturday at Big Sioux Recreation Area.

We’re happy to share that a few campsites are still available this weekend! The currently available sites are 22E, 41E, and 42E.

We’re feeling especially grateful today! 🌿

Blake is currently working toward his Eagle Scout rank, and last fall, he reached out to our park to see if there were any projects he could take on to benefit the park and its visitors.

After some brainstorming, we came up with a fun idea: a face cutout photo board! 🎃📸 This new addition will be used at our upcoming Trick or Treat Trails event, as well as our annual Homesteader Day event at Beaver Creek Nature Area, giving visitors a fun way to make memories and enjoy their time at the park.

We’re incredibly thankful for Blake’s initiative, creativity, and willingness to give back to the community. Projects like this help make our park events even more enjoyable for visitors of all ages!

Exciting news!

As of this post, Cabin 3 is available for this upcoming weekend (Friday - Sunday). The cabin can accommodate up to 5 people, has electricity and the park is starting to show some nice fall colors!
