For those who do not know, my mom passed away a week go Friday morning. I just wanted to take this time to tell you about this amazing women that have touched so many hearts and lives. When I was a very little girl, I remember thinking that I must have the most beautiful mom in the neighborhood. She would come home from working in the office at Bendix dressed in the most stylish clothes. She would stay in her spiked high heels, nylons with her ruby red lipstick while cooking our supper. Unfortunately, she wasn’t the best cook. Food was often burnt, but she looked great making supper. My mom was also a very good roller skater and spent a good deal of her teen years at the roller rinks. With her sisters they formed a band, where Mom played a bass fiddle, Eileen sang and Rosie played a steel guitar. As soon as she turned 18 she married my dad. I’m sure she didn’t realize what an exciting life she would have married to my dad. He was extremely outdoorsy and athletic and expected the same from his wife and kids. Mom knew how to swim but just enough to keep her head above water, but this didn’t matter to my dad he was bound and determined to get her to love the water as much as him. He was an awesome skier and made mom learn how to ski. He also talked her into attempting to go over the ski jump, as my dad was an excellent jumper and the best kite flyer around. He was fearless when flying the kite behind the boat and would drop his skis as soon as he took off, which means you had to land on the water with no skis. He would turn around backwards and land on his back. Someone in the boat had to release him at just the right time in order for him not to get hurt. Dad always insisted that my mom ride release in the boat because she had that special skill of knowing just the right time to pull the release and land him gently in the water. My mom also became a certified scuba diver. She was not going to be the only one in the family that didn’t dive, even though she hated getting her head wet. She was on bowling leagues in her younger years and once she moved to the lake she was in a golfing league. She loved to dance and mom and I took line dance lessons for several years. I enjoyed seeing the campers come up and ask my mom to dance. She really loved that. Mom was a tough lady and was the backbone of keeping things under control. She was fearless and had no problem standing up to someone twice her size and putting them in their place. She got knocked down a couple of time’s but it didn’t stop her from letting them know who was boss. Mom loved her grandchildren and always took time away from the campground to take them on small trips in the summer. My parents loved spending their winters in the Florida Keys scuba diving and fishing which they have done for the past 30 or more years. Mom will truly be missed by all of us. We love her deeply. Making matters worse this week Vicky lost her beloved Baxter. He was a fixture at the gate all of his life and everyone knew Baxter. He had no enemies and thought all golfcarts was his. We loved the little guy with his multiple names. (Baxter, B man, Stinky, Mr.B) . We miss him so much already and it just won’t be the same at the gate without Baxter and Mom. Please respect our privacy. It’s been too difficult to talk about all that has gone on this week. But thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
