Dinner cooks slower out here. That's the point.
Nobody's checking a clock at the picnic table. The coals take their time, somebody's kid is still in the water, and the light on Lake Somerville goes gold before anybody thinks about plates. That's the whole reason people keep coming back to this stretch of shoreline, and it's why we've never tried to make Overlook Park into anything fancier than what it is: an easygoing basecamp with clean spaces, 138 acres, and the lake right there.
More than 100 RV sites, lakeside cabins, tent and daily sites near the water, a pavilion when the whole family shows up, playgrounds, a marina, boat rentals, two boat ramps and covered boat storage. That's the setup. The rest is up to you and whatever you brought in the cooler.
And we're nine days out from Live Music on the Lake. Hayden Baker with Mason Marek and Cathey Bolin, Saturday September 5 at 5pm. $5 per person, free with any camping reservation, with the Nectar Drink Bar and No Clue Cookers food truck slinging dinner so you don't have to cook that night. overlookparkandmarina.com or (979) 289-2321.
