Seasonal rules for dogs on Brewster beaches.

Cape Cod beach rules can be tricky to navigate, especially as we get closer to summer.

If you're heading to Brewster, remember that from May 15th to September 15th, dogs aren't
allowed on the public beaches, tidal flats, or parking areas.

The workaround?

Early May and late September are incredible times to visit. The weather is beautiful and the beaches are wide open for our pups.

Where's your favorite off-season beach to walk?

Mine are Saints Landing and the Eddy Trail.

If you're traveling with a dog, most vacation rentals make you feel like an afterthought.

Wish Me Luck Cottage was built around the idea that your dog is part of the family and belongs on vacation too.

Three bedrooms. Accommodates 6 guests. Sitting on 1.5 acres of conservancy land in Brewster, Cape Cod - just a 1/2 mile from the bay. The land around the property isn't just outdoor space. It's preserved, private, and genuinely beautiful. Room for dogs to roam, explore, and be dogs.

Brewster has some of the most dog-accessible spots on the Cape, especially before the summer season kicks in. Bay beaches, trails, the herring run at Stony Brook. Your dog will not be bored.

Summer weeks are booking now. Off-season stays have a 3-night minimum.

If you've been waiting for a Cape Cod rental where you don't have to feel apologetic about bringing your dog, this is it.

There's a version of Cape Cod that most visitors never see, and it's happening right now.
April on the Cape is the herring run. Thousands of river herring are making their annual migration up from the ocean into Cape Cod's rivers, streams, and ponds to spawn. At Stony Brook in Brewster - right down the road from the cottage - you can stand at the fishway and watch them move upstream in the clearest spring water you've ever seen. It's one of those things you have to witness once to understand why people talk about it.
The osprey are back. They follow the herring, and watching them work over the water is the kind of nature moment that reminds you there are still wild, unhurried places in the world.
The beaches are quiet and completely yours. Most Cape Cod beaches are open to visitors before the summer season restrictions kick in. Cold morning walks on the flats with nobody around. Low tide revealing acres of tidal shelf that'll be underwater again by afternoon.
The gardens are waking up. The daffodils are finishing and the wildflowers are just starting. Everything is green and new and not yet crowded.
This is the Cape that locals know. And it's the Cape you get to yourself when you come in April or May.

The Cape Cod Spring No One Tells You About

The beach is yours.
No crowds, no noise - just you, the waves, and miles of open sand.

This is Cape Cod in spring: quiet, golden, and completely worth it.

Wish Me Luck Cottage is steps from the water and open now for spring stays.

Spring is finally here and Cape dogs are LOSING IT (in the best way). Anyone else's pup just absolutely come alive this time of year?

Figured I'd share some of my favorite spots to take them now that the weather is cooperating:

Nickerson State Park, Brewster - miles of trails with ponds to splash in. Leash required but absolutely worth it, especially on a weekday morning when it's quiet.

Sandy Neck Beach, Barnstable - dogs allowed on leash during the off-season. The dunes out here are incredible and my dogs could walk it for hours.

Wellfleet - walk the trails around Duck Creek at low tide. The smells alone will have your dog in heaven. Highly recommend early morning.

Cape Cod Rail Trail - such a good one for dogs who like to move. You can hop on at different access points and just go. Harwich to Wellfleet is my favorite stretch.

Chapin Memorial Beach, Dennis - great for a low-tide beach walk. The tidal flats stretch out forever and dogs can run a bit more freely out there.

What spots am I missing? Always looking for new places to take them!

Spring on Cape Cod is something else.

The beaches are wide open. Trails through the marsh are blooming. You can actually hear the waves because there's no one talking over them.

We're talking golden hour with no crowds. Parking that doesn't require a game plan. That slow, easy Cape Cod feeling that disappears once summer hits.
If you've only ever done the Cape in July, spring might just ruin you - in the best way.

Wish Me Luck Cottage is open now and ready for the season. Come see what the Cape looks like before everyone else finds out.

Planning a family trip to Cape Cod this summer?
You're going to need more than just sunscreen.

The Cape has world-class beaches, yes but it also has aquariums with rare blue lobsters, trails through salt marshes, baby horseshoe crabs you won't believe are real, and the best lobster roll debate you'll ever have.

One of our absolute favorite family stops is the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History right here in Brewster. The kids will love the hands-on exhibits, the butterfly garden, and the trails across the street with views of the salt marsh.

We wrote up our top picks for family-friendly things to do on the Cape.
