Stated Meeting: 1st Monday

08/19/2025

Lawrence Lee “Larry” Osborn, of Bridgeport, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, at the Haven of Bridgeport. He was 82 years old. Larry was born on September 14, 1942, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Edgar Lavern Osborn and Geneva (Mitchell) Osborn.

After completing high school, Larry served his country in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska. Following his military service, he pursued higher education and earned an Associate’s Degree from Olney Central College. Larry began his professional journey with Texaco in 1966. His dedication to the company spanned over three decades, leading him to assignments in Texas, then to Saudi Arabia—where he spent 15 years—and eventually to California. He retired from Texaco in 1998.

Larry was an Eagle Scout and a master carpenter, known for his custom cabinetry and building the family a home north of Bridgeport. He was a devoted member of the Bridgeport Methodist Church and a Mason for more than 60 years as well as being a Master Mason. Larry’s love for adventure and service was evident in his passion for fishing, square dancing, canoeing, and camping—including memorable experiences in the Arabian desert. While in Saudi Arabia, he completed numerous mission trips to a Baptist hospital in Yemen, opened his home to members of the military during Desert Shield and Desert Storm as well as spending most weekends providing food and fellowship to the troops out in the desert. His travels with family took him across the world, with special trips to Ireland with his in-laws, and visits to see his brother in Spain and Egypt.

Larry is survived by two daughters: Cindy Hawkins and husband Randy of Bridgeport, Illinois, and Lisa Osborn and husband Eric Hammack of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Edgar Osborn, Jr. of Florida; two grandchildren, Shelby Potts of Bridgeport, Illinois, and Austin Hawkins and Taiylar Thompson of Sumner, Illinois; and three great-grandchildren, Lexi and Leah Potts and Stetson Knight.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Linda Joles.

A time for remembrance will occur on August 24th from 4-6 pm with the masonic rites being conducted at 6 pm. The services will then conclude.

Donations in Larry’s memory can be given to the Lawrence County Humane Society or the Bridgeport Senior Citizen’s Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.cunninghamfuneralhomes.com.
