Good Morning all,
With thanks to NJACS, It is my great pleasure to send you the link for our upcoming November 1st meeting, as follows:
https://njacs.org/msdg-mtg
Once you are on the NJACS page, then hit the RED ‘Register Here’ link and fill in the blanks. We are requiring that you register if you plan to come and please come if you register. We want to have food and seating set accurately for the night, and it is tricky these days as to meeting attendance, as you all likely know.
As well, share the invite/link to interested friends and colleagues! Please also note that anyone who needs to be re-listed due to job changes, etc can certainly reply back to my email with that request.
And … a little bit more on the night’s events …
Your NJMSDG committee is very pleased and excited to host a Special Event Meeting that highlights, as well as celebrates, some of the major events in the history of mass spectrometry. The event title will likely be shortened to simply ‘History Night’ as we welcome Dr. P. Jane Gale, the current ASMS Archivist/Historian, who will present ‘Decade by Decade: An Historical Review of Mass Spectrometry and ASMS in the Second Half of the 20th Century’. Dr. Gale has often observed , “Community has been such an important part of our profession,” and our community is excited to have her return to NJ to share how ASMS is preserving and presenting the researchers, the instrumentation developments, and the scientific communities that have provided such a powerful analytical tool for our complex applications and most difficult research problems. We look forward to learning how ASMS captures and presents this rich story as Dr. Gale describes four broad topics covered by the ASMS history poster collection: 1) the History of ASMS, 2) Member Interactions and Giants in Mass Spectrometry, 3) the History of the Science of Mass Spectrometry and 4) the History of Commercialization and explores the evolution of the science and the Society over the last 70 years through a more in-depth look at the ASMS Anniversary posters.
And don’t forget the contest/hunt for the oldest, working Mass Spectrometer – be a part of our slide show presentation. The contest (with prizes) is for the oldest working mass spectrometer (we will include all pictures in a slide show). Please send pictures and provenances/details to [email protected]. You need to be present to win but, but, but, you can submit any ‘known to you’ MS with proper details (so reach back to those university instruments where you eeked out that data for your PhD, etc, etc … love to have your pics and stories … but must still be working/ no old units sitting in storage waiting disposal).
Anyway, we have a lot to cover … and we have just the person to do it with style!
