MEMORIAL DAY.....
From the fields of Gettysburg and the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan and the streets of Fallujah, their final acts were in service to the United States and the constitutional order it represents.
Soldiers buy time and security with blood. They don't guarantee the character of the republic that follows. Many of the fallen understood this distinction.
The least we owe is to remember them accurately—not as props for slogans, but as individuals who paid the highest price so the rest of us could argue about what to do with the liberty they helped secure.
