Happy National Lobster Day! 🦞

Yes, it was yesterday. We were busy eating lobster, which is the whole point of the day.

A big thank-you to our lobstermen friends here in Maine. They're on the water before sunrise, haul traps in any weather, and put in days most of us couldn't handle. Because of them, the lobster on your plate went from the ocean to kitchens across the country in less time than it took us to write this post.

To all our friends and guests: thanks for another great season. We hope to see you back on the Reach next summer. The lobster will be fresh, the sunsets will be spectacular, and at our place every day is lobster day.

Fall is closing in, but the dahlias aren't ready to give up on summer — and neither is Bodie, our Bernese Mountain Dog, who's still chasing every last warm breeze down the porch. Rocking chairs, salt air, and a wagging tail on the Reach.

The Eggemoggin Reach Inn is honored to support the Sherman family and Rosanna’s Readers with a donated 2-night stay for their silent auction at the Blue Hill Fair, September 3–7.

Rosanna’s Readers has done wonderful work putting books in the hands of young readers on the peninsula, and we’re grateful to be a small part of the effort. Best of luck to Laura, Roxanne, Mike and the whole team — we hope the auction is a huge success!

This is the 40th Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, a milestone year. Started in 1985 by Steve White (Brooklin Boat Yard) and Frank Hull with 13 wooden boats, it’s now one of the largest, if not the largest, wooden boat regattas in the world,  hosted by WoodenBoat School and co-organized by Brooklin Boat Yard and Rockport Marine. The 15-mile course starts in Eggemoggin Reach, rounds Egg Rock off Swans Island, then Halibut Rock, and back into the Reach. 

Last evening, we hosted the entire crew of the Spartan at the Inn - 14 in total - half are from Europe and the others, from USA. Super nice people and fun group!

The flowers are in full bloom, the garden is busting out with peas, Roma tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs, and added a new trailhead sign. Come enjoy the quieter side of coastal Maine. Blue Hill Peninsula Chamber of Commerce

Check out Bucks Restaurant in the little town of Bucks Harbor, the storied location on the Eggemoggin Reach, where Robert McCloskey rowed Sal and Jane ashore in One Morning in Maine and found the Maine that shaped Blueberries for Sal. The old store and garage he drew are still there, still watching the same working harbor. A loose tooth, a pail of berries, an ice cream cone at the end of a long row — McCloskey knew the best days in Maine are the ordinary ones.
