🎣 Fishing Friday: Lake Okeechobee Restoration Update 🌿

Lake Okeechobee is more than one of the best bass fishing destinations in the world. It is a living ecosystem, and important restoration work is happening to help protect its future.

Through aquatic vegetation management and habitat restoration efforts, crews have removed 510 acres of muck from the 1st Point Connector area. This work helps restore the lake’s natural sandy bottom, improve water movement into the interior marsh, and support better water quality.

Native aquatic plants are also being restored in areas around the lake, including eelgrass, Kissimmee grass, bulrush, and sawgrass. These plants provide shelter, food, and spawning habitat for fish and wildlife.

Healthy vegetation means healthier habitat, and healthier habitat helps support the world-class bass fishing Lake Okeechobee is known for.

We are proud to see continued restoration efforts that protect the Big O, support our local fishing economy, and keep Okeechobee shining as the Bass Capital of the World. 🌅🐟
