City of Bucyrus water revenue is roughly $3.7 million annually.

There are approximately 5800 total water accounts (commercial and residential). Therefore the average revenue per account is $53.16 per month. This is total revenue averaged per account, not actual usage or actual per account billing. Just the average cost per account.

We have approximately 140 dead residential accounts, at least 70 demolished properties (since 2017) and at least 20 vacant commercial buildings, likely more, but round off at 20.

If all those were paying a water bill, average cost per account would drop to 51.13.

This results in a roughly 4% increase in everyone’s water bill due to vacant and abandoned properties, or an additional $2.03 per month per account, on average. That is the cost to citizens of vacant or abandoned buildings or demolished properties that are turned into side yards and garage space.

Do the same calculation for:

Sewer

Storm water

Garbage

It starts to add up
