We're halfway through! There is still time to join in!

On January 1, Nelson Lodge No. 135 (Ancient Free and Accepted Masons) in Buffalo began its 15th Annual Food Shelf Fund Drive. The drive runs through February 28, 2026, and is conducted in partnership with the Order of the Eastern Star, Galilee Chapter No. 53, supporting the Buffalo and Annandale/Maple Lake food shelves.

Since 2012, with help from the community and Minnesota Masonic Charities, this effort has raised more than $345,000 for the Annandale/Maple Lake Food Shelf and over $434,000 for the Buffalo Food Shelf.

How to donate:

1.) Write a check payable to Nelson Masonic Lodge No. 135 or Galilee Chapter No. 53 (please do not make checks payable to the food shelf).

2.) In the memo line, note Buffalo or Annandale/Maple Lake to designate your food shelf.

3.)Deposit your check at Old National Bank or mail it to:
Old National Bank, Attn: Masons Food Shelf Drive, 910 Commercial Dr., Buffalo, MN 55313.

All donations go 100% directly to the designated food shelf—there are no administrative expenses and no sharing of funds. Donations are made in March, allowing food shelves to leverage the Minnesota Food Share Program for even greater impact.

Donations may be tax deductible. Please consult your tax advisor. A receipt will be mailed to the address on your check.

Nelson Lodge Meeting Places. Post 4 of 5:
In late 1893 to early 1894, after losing our home and all of our belonging twice to fires within 1 year, Brother A.Y. Eaton made arrangements whereby Nelson Lodge along with Galilee Chapter and the Odd Fellows were able to share the small quarters of the G.A.R (Grand Army of the Republic) and W.R.C. (Woman's Relief Corps). The G.A.R and W.R.C were at the time occupying a small room over the Berg Grocery Store which was situated nearly where the Lindberg residence is facing the court house grounds. By a united effort the room was newly papered and carpeted and though small was a happy home until July 1st, 1895 when the Odd Fellows hall was completed. This Nelson Lodge leased for 5 years, paying rent in advance.

Nelson Lodge Meeting Places. Post 3 of 5:
After losing all in a fire in July of 1893, in August of 1893 Nelson Lodge is kindly offered to share the hall that the Odd Fellows use over Louis Kracks general store. At a meeting on August 27th, 1893, those present voted a special assessment on each member to help get the necessary equipment to continue the work, also applied to Grand Lodge for permission to hold their meetings at this hall which was granted. After becoming nicely equipped and comfortably situated, fire again wiped out their entire property on November 18th 1893, once more with no insurance. Nelson Lodge Meeting Places. Post 1 of 5:
On January 20th, 1878 authority from the Grand Lodge to work as a lodge under dispensation was received. Our first home of several years was at Putnam's Hall owned by Brother and Charter member S. A. Putnam (also credited with suggesting "Nelson" as the name) Here the brothers met and worked out the lessons of Masonry, with homemade tools, columns, pedestals and alter, with jewels cut from tin by W. Brother S. R. Wells. The lodge continued to meet at Putnam's Hall until November of 1884.
