🎣 march Venice fishing report 🎣
March delivered. The marsh warmed up, the gulf opened up, and Venice reminded everyone why it's the sportsman's paradise. Here's what was on fire this month.
Inshore
Bull reds stayed aggressive all month — limits every day on live shrimp and paddle tails worked along current edges and grass mats. Speckled trout picked up dramatically in the second half of march as water temps climbed into the mid-60s. Sheepshead were stacked around structure, bridges, and pilings — vertical jigging with fiddler crabs was the move. Flounder also starting to show in transition areas.
Best technique: live shrimp, paddle tails, sight-fishing the flats
Best conditions: moving water, warming afternoon tides, clean pockets
Offshore
Yellowfin tuna were consistent at the shelf on weather windows — chunking and live bait around structure produced hard. Mahi-mahi started showing up in the warmer blue water, chasing sargassum lines. Wahoo mixed in with the tuna bite on early morning trolling runs. Cobia are starting to appear around the platforms —they'll only get better from here.
Best bite: yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, cobia building
Looking ahead: red snapper season opens may 1 ⬇️
