When driving through Burdett’s Main Street, there is one house that truly sets itself apart, a beautifully charming Queen Anne Victorian with a bold chartreuse door and an inviting porch that immediately catches your attention. The Burdett House Bed & Breakfast was started by Ashley Jones and David Martin in 2012, and since then we have watched it transform into one of the most thoughtfully restored homes in Burdett.
Ashley and David were both living in New York City with successful careers in fashion and marketing. While visiting the Finger Lakes and sipping a brew on the Two Goats Deck, they felt a change was in order after 10 years of hustling in the city. Can we blame them? I think that view may have made a few people move to Seneca Lake.
The hunt for a home began, a charming Queen Anne Victorian right on Main Street in Burdett became available. While the purchase happened immediately, the renovation with the help of Ashley’s father took time, finishing one room at a time to begin their journey into the bed and breakfast business.
Upon walking in you realize quickly this is not your granny’s bed and breakfast, this is a modern, beautifully designed home with attention to historic detail everywhere you look. Which makes perfect sense with Ashley’s background and degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. Every room feels curated with unique names like Knickerbocker and Excelsior. They set out to showcase and share New York, not just the city but they wanted to embrace the wonder and diversity of the great state of New York. Each room has its own charm with a unique color palette, luxurious linens and thoughtful details throughout the space. The house is laid out in a way where each room feels private, each with their own bathroom. A couple of the rooms also have private balconies overlooking the gardens in the back and Main Street.
Beyond their thoughtful restoration, Ashley and David have immersed themselves into our community, working part time at Grist Iron Brewing. They also enjoy spending time in our local establishments, meeting people and gathering valuable knowledge and insights to share with their guests each morning at breakfast.
David and Ashley work tirelessly throughout the season to keep the Burdett House beautiful and ready to be enjoyed by their guests. Guests highlight their mornings spent in their café style dining room where a delicious two course breakfast is served and spending time with their beautiful aussiedoodle, Hudson, who has become a local celebrity with his visits to the local wineries and breweries. What an idyllic place to stay when you visit Seneca Lake, and we are ecstatic to have them on board with South East Seneca.
