You may have read about the couple stranded here whose wedding today became a major community outpouring of support when their family couldn’t show up due to the road closure. Frisco Woods Campground stepped in and offered their pavilion, and other folks provided food, decorations, and all the makings for a memorable wedding including a dj for the celebration. We were happy for Yaupon Inn to have a small part in this undertaking as we welcomed the bride to our common room for our talented neighbor Chloe to help her look her best for her big day.

Usually this innkeeper has no need to leave the village of Buxton very often during the summer months. Today, however, an errand in Hatteras Village took me right by the most awesome food truck and I’m so glad I stopped. On your next trip to Hatteras, stop by Toucana Grill located in the Teach’s Lair Marina parking lot and see Chef Tyler. And if Berries and Cream (strawberries, tres leches, orange blossom honey) happens to be on the menu that day, grab one for this innkeeper.😀It is delicious!

We usually try to stay off the radar, but what a joy it was to be in the center of the action today. The hurricane cleanup sponsored by the Buxton Civic Association brought approximately 200 volunteers who cleaned the debris from Old Lighthouse Road and the side streets that lead to the beach. We are so grateful to residents, folks from nearby towns, and even vacationers who pitched in to bring this part of Buxton back to life.

For those of you who haven’t had the chance to enjoy the pathway to the lighthouse which was completed last fall, I recommend you take a walk or bike ride to check it out on your next visit to our island. It begins at the National Park entrance on Highway 12 and goes all the way to the lighthouse site. There are even a few benches if you want to stop and rest. Here are a few scenes from my early morning bike ride today.
