Due to severe drought conditions, beach fires remain prohibited at all Cape Hatteras National Seashore locations.
The North Carolina Forest Service has reported that more than 500 wildfires have burned thousands of acres across the state, since its ban on open burning was enacted on March 28.
To help ensure fires do not impact Seashore land and neighboring communities, we urge visitors to follow these safety tips:
—Do not dispose of smoking products outdoors.
—Park vehicles in appropriate areas, away from tall grass.
—Be cautious when cooking food in campgrounds.
