An update from Choke Canyon State Park pasted below. Thanks GTO construction! BTW - still lots of good fish still being caught at the lake.
To clear up any questions the community has about the boat ramps at our park, here are some FAQs about the Boat Ramp!
What is being done/has been done to make the ramp accessible for boater use?
- Choke Canyon staff used equipment to try to level out the propwash berms preventing launch. However, larger equipment was needed; we thank GTO Construction for their time and efforts to finish the job!
Which Boat Ramp did the propwash berm sediment get leveled out on?
- The propwash berm at the Calliham unit boat ramp was leveled out. As of right now the South Shore ramp, and all others, are still closed.
Since the sediment at the base of the ramp has been leveled out, can we launch all of our boats again?
- We are still recommending only shallow boats, such as kayaks, canoes and flat bottom boats, be launched. Please be aware that it is very difficult to launch and then navigate the reservoir at this time. Keep your safety and your boat's integrity in mind, as there are unknown submerged objects and shallow sandbars.
What is the water level of the reservoir that is making the boat ramp so difficult to use?
- Right now we are at about 16% capacity at Choke Canyon Reservoir, over 33 feet below full water levels.
- Please keep in mind that we are at historically low lake levels, and while leveling the propwash berm has allowed for easier launching, it still poses a challenge. Launch at your own risk!
Is there still a drop-off at the end of the ramp?
- Yes. The sediment is very soft at the end of the ramp; EXTREME caution must be used when backing a trailer.
Again, thank you to GTO Construction for assisting our community in this way! We appreciate all you've done!
