UNBELIEVABLE!! Another complaint has been sent to me regarding my property. This time I’m being accused of damning up Brewery Creek like a beaver 🦫 This follows multiple bogus complaints over the past several months. EGLE (Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy) has been called by ZA Sue Hockings with multiple previous environmental allegations involving my property and they found no violations. They assured me there is nothing for me to do as I did nothing wrong. Despite that, I continue to receive new complaints. Now her threats of $60k in fines look so foolish with confirmation from EGLE. I am sharing this because I believe the public should be aware of what has been occurring and being allowed by our elected representatives. This is beyond overreach, this is outright harassment! If what has happened to us doesn’t already make you angry, THIS should really make you mad. Today I received ANOTHER harassing letter from the county ZA. This one regarding a camping tent set up on the middle of a wooded lot I own in Keweenaw completely unrelated to the cottages. It’s not visible from the road so I question the legitimacy of her claim a complaint was even filled. Even if so, what was the complaint?! “Hello, I’d like to make a complaint about a camping tent sitting in the woods on private property?” If someone did file a complaint they had to trespass to see it. Is this what we as taxpayers are funding? I think the county has a few other things this money could go towards rather than a self defeating ZA that will sink the county in lawsuits.

This is so far out of line I cannot believe it! If you don’t want to live in a police state and have this woman entering your property, snooping at will and searching for bogus charges you need to voice it tomorrow at the county commissioners meeting at the courthouse in Eagle River at 6:30. I won’t be the last local she harasses so after me it’s on to someone new unless we make our rights heard and hold the board up to represent the people, ALL THE PEOPLE. Sue Hockings must go!!

Thank you for the tremendous support and outreach since my last post regarding the county ZA and this unfortunate situation she has created for my family. My father is 83 and a proud life long Keweenaw County resident and business owner. I feel sick that he has to endure this now. The hurt and stress will not be overlooked and the legalities will be handled by the court if not corrected prior to litigation.

Well, ZA Hockings has ramped up her attacks on my family and now I need to ask for your support. Please consider attending the county commissioner’s meeting at 6:30 next Wednesday July 15. Even if you don’t live in Keweenaw County or the UP still show up and let them know this is wrong. Your presence alone speaks volumes. The past 2 meetings both ZA Hockings and various board members made comments in the minutes that will legally hold them to the fire and only builds my case stronger. I will be making another public comment and encourage anyone else as well. Maybe you, friends or family have stayed with us, worked for or with us as a vendor or subcontractor, maybe you just like local laws that apply to everyone and not just for some. Please come support this Wednesday, it means so much to us and I know my dad will love to see you there too ❤️❤️❤️

Sadly our longtime glowing renters who are now “neighbors” far up the road from us have decided to attempt to shut us down because they don’t want cars driving on “thier” road. What is worse is the zoning administrator has taken illegal actions against me to appease them. We have hired an attorney and are confident it will be taken care of properly. We do humbly ask you to help us too and send a note to the commissioners with your feedback. They need a new ZA and correct my situation asap!
