Most people think a mountain rental means one thing. We've got three.

Here's your sign to book September in Asheville. This month is stacked with the kind of events that only happen once a year. ✨

Weekend one: Sept 4 to 7 🍎
Downtown Hendersonville turns into eight blocks of vendors, live music, and apple tastings for the 80th annual NC Apple Festival, closing out with the King Apple Parade on Labor Day. Over in Maggie Valley, more than 100 artists and crafters set up at the Festival Grounds for the Labor Day Arts and Crafts Show. Free, no reason not to wander both.

Weekend two: Sept 11 to 13 🎡
The NC Mountain State Fair opens in Fletcher and runs a full ten days, rides and livestock shows and fair food included. Same weekend, Autumn at Oz kicks off atop Beech Mountain, Yellow Brick Road and live performers and all. It tends to sell out weekend by weekend, so this isn't a wait and see.

Weekend three: Sept 18 to 20 🪕
Heritage Weekend at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway is free and low key in the best way. Traditional music, dancing, heritage craft demos, and the World Gee Haw Whimmy Di**le Competition, which is exactly as fun as it sounds.

Weekend four: Sept 25 to 27 🇬🇷
The Asheville Greek Festival takes over Historic Montford with spanakopita, baklava, and Greek dancing.

And this is just a handful of what's on the calendar. There are countless festivals happening all over WNC this month, making it the perfect time to experience culture and community across the mountains. Book September, and there's a reason to be here every single weekend. 🏔️

Western North Carolina is so much more than hiking and breweries (though we stand by still having some of the best).

🦌 Cataloochee Valley — A wild elk herd grazing in a valley where an entire mountain community used to live. The historic homes, barns, and chapel are still standing, and the road partially reopened after Helene, so you can actually get in and walk it.

🌪️ Land of Oz — A real 1970s theme park that closed decades ago and now only wakes up a few weekends a year. Autumn at Oz opens the gates September 11 to 13, 18 to 20, and 25 to 27. Follow the actual yellow brick road while you still can.

⛰️ Grandfather Mountain — Same ancient mountain chain as the Scottish Highlands. Millions of years ago they were connected before the continents split. That's also why they throw a full Highland Games at the base every summer. Bonus if you're an experienced hiker: the trails up top get real, with cable sections and rock scrambles that are not for beginners.

🏔️ Mount Mitchell — Highest point east of the Mississippi. You're higher up right now than anyone standing in New York, Chicago, or Miami.

💧 Land of Waterfalls — Transylvania County alone has over 250 named waterfalls. Some take a real hike to reach, but plenty are an easy walk right up to the base, so you don't have to be an experienced hiker to see one of these up close.
