It’s hot 🥵 for sure!

Hello Canyon Friends!

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for today (and likely the next few days). To help keep visitors safe, the following trails will be closed from 11 a.m.–5 p.m.:
• Lighthouse
• Given Spicer Lowry (GSL)
• Rock Garden
• Upper Comanche
• Lower Comanche

Other than the heat advisory closures, the only trails currently closed are:
• Cottonwood
• Sunflower
• Juniper Riverside

If you’re visiting this weekend, we’ve got plenty of ways to enjoy the park:

Tonight! (Thursday) – 9:00 p.m.
Scorpion Hunt – Meet at Soapberry Day Use Area. Bring your UV flashlight and your curiosity!

Friday - 8:00 a.m.
Ladies Hike – Meet at the Lighthouse Parking Lot. We’ll laugh a lot and hike Rojo Grande!

Saturday – 8:00 a.m.
Birding Hike – Meet at Soapberry Day Use Area. Bring your binos!

2:00 p.m.
Palo Duro Van Tour – Beat the heat in our air-conditioned van! Meet at the Longhorn Pasture.

Happy Friday! (7/3/26)

The following trails are currently open:
• CCC
• Triassic
• Goodnight Peak
• Big Cave
• Rock Garden
• Lighthouse
• GSL
• Capitol Peak
• Juniper Cliffside
• Pioneer Nature Trail

The remaining trails still need a little more time to dry out.

There are still a few muddy spots, so hike and bike smart! Going through the mud will quickly leave you with some very heavy shoes or bike tires. Taking the trail with you is strongly discouraged!!

Good morning, and happy July from PDC! 🇺🇸

We are thankful to have gotten a little rain overnight! Our Mesonet stations recorded 0.57 inches on the canyon floor and 0.49 inches on the rim.

The following trails are OPEN today:
• CCC
• Triassic
• Goodnight Peak
• Lighthouse
• GSL
• Big Cave
• Rock Garden

*while these trails are open, it’s strongly suggested bikes hold off a bit longer!! 💚

It’s going to be another hot one, so if you’re heading out, start early, carry plenty of water, and know your limits.

🥵 hot hot hot today.

It’s going to be a hot day in the canyon!

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Advisory, and temperatures are expected to reach 110°F on the canyon floor.

This morning, we will be opening Lighthouse, GSL, Juniper Cliffside, and Capitol Peak, in addition to the trails already open.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., (6/17/26) the only trails open will be:
• CCC
• Triassic
• Pioneer Nature
• Big Cave
• Juniper Cliffside

Get out and hike early, carry plenty of water, and don’t forget your electrolytes!

lt felt brutally hot today. According to observations from the West Texas Mesonet sites, the hottest temperature recorded was 107°F on the Palo Duro Canyon State Park floor, with numerous locations across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles reaching 100–106°F. 🔥🥵🏜️

State Of Texas: Free Fishing Day TOMORROW!! Saturday June 6th!
Forget the forms and skip the license fees this Saturday, June 6. This is your final reminder to dust off your tackle box, grab some bait, and head to the water.

The Essentials:

When: This Saturday, June 6 (All Day).

Where: Any public body of water in Texas.

The Rule: No license or endorsement needed!

Quick Tips:

Bring a friend: Make memories on the water together! Free Fishing Day is a great chance to introduce someone to fishing or enjoy a new experience side by side. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or picking up a rod for the first time, this is your day. Let’s make it a big one.

We are currently receiving consistent rainfall throughout the park, and all trails are closed at this time to help protect visitor safety and prevent trail damage.

Please do not go around those fun green gates!

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates on our social media and webpage as they become available!
