Every fall a club board calls us asking what inflatables cost for their community day at a city park. The answer nobody wants: you can't put one in a Cape Coral park. Any of them.

Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral, FL is hosting KidsFest on Oct. 17 at Cultural Park — free admission, free parking, free hot dog for the kids. Go. But if YOUR club is planning a fall festival, here's where the inflatables actually have to go, and what they cost.

Your 4 p.m. party in late September is not the same party it was in June.

Cape Coral loses 33 minutes of evening light this month — about a minute a day, which is exactly the rate at which nobody notices until the last four guests are loading car seats in the dark. We ran the numbers for the Cape's coordinates and put the whole month in one table: sunset and civil dusk, week by week, plus what it does to teardown.

Good news if you want the dark: Sept 26 you can start a backyard movie at 7:58 p.m. instead of fighting until 9:05 like you would in June.

Here is the part most Cape Coral homeowners don't know — pulling up onto your own grass next to the driveway is a code violation. Pervious surfaces are off limits in residential zoning districts, and that's your yard, your grass, your afternoon. Chris walked the whole thing out: the state setbacks, the 15 feet around the hydrant, the cul-de-sac trap, and why 25 guests works out to about 220 feet of curb you almost certainly do not have.

They're back. The second lovebug flight of 2026 started this week and runs through most of September.

Am I even allowed to run a water slide right now?" We get that call constantly, and it got more common after Cape Coral picked up a state water conservation award on August 21.

Short version: the watering schedule tied to your address digit is a LAWN irrigation schedule. It's never been the thing that stopped a party here. Rain has. The schedule hasn't.
