Nestled on the North Dakota prairie, Pipestem Creek Bed and Birding is in the heart of the potholes and prairie region. Thanks to its prime location in the central fly zone, this birding retreat offers rare access to a variety of birds, including many unique to the area. Visitors from around the country travel to the Pipestem Creek area, hoping to catch a glimpse of these five rare species:
Baird's sparrow

LeConte's sparrow
Nelson's Sharp-tailed sparrow
Sprague's pipit
Chestnut-collared Longspur

Pipestem Creek Bed and Birding is situated on one of the birding drives developed by Birding Drives Dakota. Just beyond the birding retreat's grounds, top birding opportunities beckon. Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge is only five miles away. And a 40-minute-drive will land birders in the Chase Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Designated as one of America's 500 Most Important Bird Areas by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC), Chase Lake boasts the largest white pelican population in North America. In addition, its virgin prairie attracts the Baird's sparrow. Ann Reimers Hoffert, owner and operator of Pipestem Creek Bed and Birding, is happy to share her life-long birding knowledge with her guests. To make the visit more complete, she can also arrange a professional birder to take guests on outings. Ann is the current president of Birding Drives Dakota.
