Here is a sneak peak on one of our suites & its backstory!
The Jenny Lind Suite.
During the time that the Van Horne was a popular destination place, Jenny Lind was an extremely talented singer from Sweden. She began having concerts at 14 traveling around Europe. At 28 she decided to retire!
Queen Victoria had not heard her sing yet & summoned her to the palace to sing for her.
She told Jenny she sang like a beautiful bird & named her the “Swedish nightingale”.
Jenny was ready to retire but P.T. Barnum talked her into 1 performance in New York for America’s richest people. She was a huge hit! She stayed in America for almost 3 years.
