Trout On™ Inn Grey Reef Weekend Fishing Report June 6 & 7 2026| North Platte River
The Grey Reef Dam is currently releasing a steady 498 CFS, providing anglers with excellent wade and float fishing conditions throughout the Grey Reef section of the North Platte River.
The biggest story this weekend will be the heat and wind. Saturday starts off mostly cloudy before giving way to sunshine and temperatures climbing into the mid-90s. Breezy afternoon conditions are expected, with gusts reaching over 20 mph. Sunday will be slightly cooler, but significantly windier, with southwest winds increasing throughout the day and gusts approaching 40 mph by afternoon.
Angler Report
Despite the summer-like temperatures, fishing remains productive across the Grey Reef. Trout are holding in their typical early-season locations, including deeper runs, transition seams, drop-offs, and slower bankside water. Consistent flows continue to provide stable habitat and predictable fish behavior.
Midges remain an important food source, particularly during the morning hours, while scuds, sow bugs, worms, leeches, and small streamers continue to produce throughout the day. As water temperatures rise, anglers should focus their efforts during the cooler morning hours and again in the evening when fish become more active and willing to feed.
The increasing wind expected throughout the weekend may make nymphing the most reliable tactic, especially on Sunday. Heavier rigs fished through deeper runs and seams should continue to find success. Streamer anglers willing to cover water may also move some larger fish along cut banks and structure during periods of cloud cover and wind.
With steady flows, warm temperatures, and healthy fish activity, anglers heading to the Grey Reef this weekend should find plenty of opportunities for quality fishing. Start early, stay hydrated, and be prepared for strengthening afternoon winds.
Good luck on the water, and we'll see you at Trout On™ Inn.
