Good morning, Sahkahtay followers—Gene and Tina here. We hope you’re all doing well! The lake should be ice-free by Sunday, which is exciting news for the 2026 Fishing Opener. We’re about a week ahead of last year’s ice-out, so the water should be warmer than usual. The walleye are expected to spawn a bit earlier this year, and by the opener, they should be past the post-spawn lull.

We’re offering a 20% discount off our spring rate for the Fishing Opener, with a three-night minimum. Plus, with any cabin rental, you’ll get a free boat slip.

We still have some cabins available for May and early June, so if you’re planning a trip or a weekend getaway, give us a call. We’re busy getting the resort ready for the season and making a few updates for our guests. Our official opening date is Thursday, May 7th, and lodge hours will be posted in the coming weeks. Thanks for following, and we'll see you when you get here!

Good afternoon, Sahkahtay followers, Gene here. Today marks 5-days being closed and our off-season work begins. We have some exciting renovations and a few new additions planned. We're excited for you all to enjoy them when you return this upcoming season. Thank you, for your ideas, that you shared with us last years.
We had an amazing ice fishing season, we loved seeing you all. We enjoyed your stories, fishing tales and the pictures you shared with all of us. The shoreline ice is receding, and the ice is honeycomb. We are currently receiving a late April Fool's Day gift from Mother Nature, expected 6-10" of wet snow through Friday. We do need the moisture, and I don't have to plow, so I'm not going to complain, much!
Please check out our calendar on our website for openings. Spring & Fall fishing is amazing and the summer sun; well, you can't beat it. We'll be re-opening early May, stay tuned for the official date.
Tina, Logan, our crew and I thank you all for a wonderful winter season. Thank you to our guests, visitors and strays. See you when you get here.

Good morning, Sahkahtay followers, Gene here.
What a weekend, wild weather once again. We had 50's & 60's with some wind, the snow cover is gone, ice is starting to breakdown, and all of the water has seeped back into the lake. We still have 20" in most spots, so we are limiting access on the lake. If you are planning on coming up still, please bring SxS or wheelers.
We had Jill and Denis return with a friend (his first time on Cass) they had to worked to catch limits. Well, the pictures tell the story, and I'm curtain the newbie will be back! Our son Reed, Lydia and a group of their friends came up for the weekend as well. They caught some fish, had a lot of fun and it was just a great weekend to hang out. It was great seeing all of you, thank you for your visit!
We are open for a few more days (the 29th), so call ahead if you're thinking about making a trip. The ice is changing daily, and foot traffic is not too far off.
A big thank you to our guests, visitors and followers. See you when you get here!

Good afternoon, Sahkahtay followers, Gene here. We all have heard the saying an elephant in the room, but what about an elephant in the sky. This morning the sunrise was short of spectacular and then a lone cloud in the sky started to deform and created this image. Crazy things can appear when there not expected.
We had the great pleasure to welcome The Schroeder Family back to Sahkahtay this past week. They're a wonderful family with 4-generations that love to fish together. What an amazing feat to have 4-generations and still enjoy what they love, congratulations!
You have 12 more days to book a stay; we're closing down on the 29th. The perch are moving into the shallow water, and the weather appears to be in our favor. If you're unable to make the ate ice, please join us for early open-water perch fishing or for the Fishing Opener 2026.
As always, we're thankful for our guests, visitors and the support we receive. See you when you get here!

Good morning, Sahkahtay Followerrs, Gene here. Wild Weekend Weather, old man winter exposing us to his wrath once again. We got 5-6" of snow Thursday night and the big winter storm stayed to our south. Warm temperatures for the next 14 days after Wednesday will bring our season to a halt. We plan on closing out the 2026 season on March 29th, as our last guest leave the resort. As of March 15th, we're no longer allowing wheelhouses out of our access.
Truck traffic will be limited to approved areas ONLY. If you're planning a trip, please call before you head out to get new updates.
The lake still has 25 plus inches, but the warm weather and as the sun getting higher in the sky, deteriorates the ice quicker than we think.
Tina, Logan and I would like to thank all of our guests and visitors to Cass Lake and Sahkahtay for an amazing season. All of your support and kindness is truly appreciated and welcomed. We have openings for the 2026 Fishing Opener and Spring. Please contact us or view our opening at www.sahkahtay.com
See you when you get here!

Good morning, Sahkahtay followers, Gene here.
Boom, another weekend in the books, we only have a few more weeks before we close for the season. We don't have a set date yet, but we will keep you all updated as March moves forward. We still have 28-29" of ice, all of the standing water is frozen, thanks to the colder temps and the perch are becoming more active.
We have cabin 7A sleeps-3 & 7B sleeps-2 open this week the 12-15th, please call for additional information. We have some pictures send in from Dob's and Logan, they had a couple buddies come up for a few days to do some fishing. The pan fish were caught on an area lake, and the walleye was caught while perch fishing and released. We're glad you guys did well and were able to take some fish home.
I was out Monday afternoon and capture these 2-Trumpter Swans flying by. That has to be a sign of spring, no Robins yet, but still a nice site.
We're allowing trucks and houses out for another week, our access is in good shape, and the ice appears to be holding up. COOOOL temp in our future and a little snow on the way. We will be doing ice checks a couple times during the week and sending out updates. Thank you all for following and choosing SahKahTay Beach Resort for your destination.
See you when you get here!

Good morning, Sahkahtay followers, Gene here.
It's Pretty tough to have a bad when it starts with this! Reminder it's day light saving this morning, Spring ahead. Well, they had a great day for the Pout Pound contest yesterday, Cass Lake fish we're very minimal but Pike Bay Lake did pretty good. All-in-all everyone stayed safe and enjoyed the great weather. Thank you to everyone that came through the resort to get a map and take advantage of the lowered road pass rate.
Upcoming weather looks promising to freeze the lake back up, we still have 28" of ice and standing water is abundant and our access is holding up. If you have a new top water bait your dying to try stop in and cast away. lol
Thank you to all of our wonderful guests this weekend, it was a blast talking with you all. The perch bite is getting better as Spring approaches. We had a Last-Minute Cancellation for Cabin 7A & 7B, available for March 11th-15th. If your schedule approves, give us a call.
See you when you get here!

Good morning, Sahkahtay followers, Gene here.
Quick update on the access and lake conditions. Our access is in good shape; I was able to shift it over a bit to avoid the puddles.
The lake is very wet, standing water is a norm, we're still measuring 28-29" of good ice throughout the fishing spots we have open for the weekend. Fishing holes haven't been freezing overnight, so water is draining down some of them. That can be a good thing, but the holes can grow as the water drains down them as well. You must be observant while driving off our roads and please keep your speed down to 5-10mph MAX! If you can drive around the water because there's a higher spot please do so, then return to the road.
Avoid driving next to the snowbanks (those are the lowest spots and will have deeper water and might have a possible crack below them).
We are offering $10.00 road passes for Saturday; we're hoping people stop in and get a road map with detailed areas to avoid and where our roads are, instead of taking a chance off the public accesses.
No ice is safe ice, so be safe, have fun and catch some fish! See you when you get here!

Hello, Sahkahtay followers, Gene here again.
We have a couple fish pics to share with you from the past couple of days. I forgot to share a picture of the truck that went in the ice to.
The Roberts group share these pictures with us, the last couple of days were GOOD fishing for them. They'll be going home with the limits.
If you didn't read the last post, please take a minute to do so. The lake is changing by the hour, the ice is shifting with the warm weather, and hazards are forming all the time. Be Smart not Tight, pay for a road pass and get updated information on the do's and don'ts.
No ice is safe ice but being educated with help. See you when you get here!

Good morning, Sahkahtay followers, Gene here.
First things first, the lake is pretty much water and slush. SLOW speeds will help preserve the quality of the ice and the fish will wait for you to get on your spot. With the warmer weather, we have CRACKS & HEAVES forming. We drive our roads a couple times a day and look for any new hazards. Please be safe and use the roads, if you go off the road, go back the way you came and take the road to you next spot. Don't blow through the snowbanks, there are cacks and flooding under the snow.
A truck came off the public access Wednesday and tried to save some time crossing between Star and Cedar Islands. The front end of his truck went through the ice; thank goodness for him it was only 3' deep. BE SAFE, BE SMART and Enjoy Fishing, pay for a road pass and get an updated road map. Saturday for the Pout Pound we are lowering our Road passes to $10.00 each, we're hoping that people stop in and get a map and stay safe!
No ice is safe ice but being alert and knowing where your driving increases your chances! See you when you get here!
